Back pain is a common problem, often caused or worsened by long hours of sitting, poor posture, or everyday strain. Gentle and regular movement can often be more helpful than complete rest. Simple yoga poses may help reduce tension, improve flexibility, and strengthen the muscles that support your spine. In this blog, we share 5 Yoga poses for back pain that can help relieve mild back pain.
5 Yoga Poses for Back Pain
1. Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)
Start on your hands and knees. As you inhale, drop your belly and lift your gaze (Cow); as you exhale, round your spine and tuck your chin (Cat). Flow gently between the two. This warms up the spine, improves flexibility, and releases tension across the whole back.
2. Child's Pose (Balasana)
This is another pose that Physiobliss, our Yoga classes Vadodara, recommends for back pain. Kneel and sit back onto your heels, then fold forward with your arms stretched ahead and your forehead resting on the mat. Breathe slowly and let your back relax. A calming resting pose that gently lengthens the lower back and eases tightness.
3. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)
Lie face down with your palms under your shoulders. Press gently to lift your chest, keeping your elbows soft and your shoulders relaxed. Rise only as far as is comfortable. This strengthens the lower back and counteracts the effects of long hours spent hunched forward.
4. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)
At our Yoga center in Vadodara, the bridge pose is another Yoga pose we recommend for back pain. Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat. Press through your feet to lift your hips, hold for a few breaths, then lower slowly. Bridge strengthens the glutes, lower back, and core, giving your spine better everyday support.
5. Supine Twist (Supta Matsyendrasana)
Lie on your back, hug one knee in, then gently guide it across your body while keeping both shoulders on the floor. Hold, breathe, and switch sides. A soothing twist that releases tension in the lower back and improves spinal mobility.
Physiobliss: Move Better, Feel Better
Yoga can be wonderful for a stiff, achy back, but it is not a cure for every cause of back pain. If your pain is severe, radiates down your leg, follows an injury, or does not improve with gentle movement, these poses are not a substitute for proper assessment. In those cases, it is best to have your back evaluated by a professional who can identify the real cause and guide you safely. Our team at the best physiotherapy clinic in Vadodara can assess your posture and movement and build a treatment plan tailored to you. If your back pain is holding you back, book an appointment with Physiobliss in Vadodara and let our physiotherapists help you move comfortably again.
